from 6th April 2016 every keeper of a dog which is older than 8 weeks must ensure that it is microchipped.

As of Thursday April 1st 2021, Tayside Dogs will be offering a Microchip Scanning Service along with your Meal Parcel delivery.

Our Request Form now has the option to have your dog microchip checked to make sure your dogs chip is there and active.

Why is a microchip number required for a meal parcel?

When you submit a meal parcel request we take your microchip number and check the databases to check that the number is authentic and you are following the law.

I dont know the microchip number

There are a few ways to find your microchip number

  • • Contact or visit your vet or a dog rescue centre;
  • • Log into your microchip registered website;
  • • We can scan at your door during collections / deliveries in Dundee;

I dont know the microchip database

You can identify which database holds your registration for a particular microchip number by going to check-a-chip.co.uk.

What database operators are there?

Why does my dog need to be microchipped?

You must make sure your dog gets a microchip implanted by the time it's 8 weeks old. Each microchip has a number that shows up when your dog's scanned. This number identifies your dog.

By getting the microchip implanted and information stored it means:

lost dogs can be re-united with their owners
the owners of dogs acting aggressively can be identified
the owners of abused dogs can be identified
you are following the law

Did you know that the chip can be expelled from the body shortly after implant, or in some cases can stop working altogether?

Keeping a dog that isn't microchipped

If you are keeping a dog that has not been microchipped this could lead to:

  • • a fine of up to £500
  • • a court case against you

Keeping information up-to-date

You must update your details on the database e.g. if you move house or get a dog that's already microchipped.

Having out of date information could lead to a:

  • • a fine of up to £500
  • • a court case against you
